ACQUISITION OF PROPERTY FOR PARK IN DENNY TRIANGLE

09/10/2008

Seattle Parks and Recreation will host a meeting to discuss a new park acquisition for the Denny Triangle neighborhood. The meeting will take place on Wednesday, September 10, 2008 from 6:30 – 8 p.m. in the 7th floor board room at Cornish College of the Arts.  Cornish is located at 1000 Lenora Street

During this meeting, Parks staff will provide information about the proposed acquisition of an 8, 722 square-foot property at 2100 Westlake Avenue, currently leased by Enterprise Rent-A-Car.

Parks has reached a preliminary agreement with Cornish College of the Arts to purchase this site. Acquisition, subject to the existing Enterprise lease, is expected to be completed no later than December 2008.

In 2002, Seattle City Council unanimously approved $3 million of the Pro Parks Levy Opportunity Fund for acquisition of land in three urban center villages, including the Denny Triangle. Approved by Seattle voters in 2000, the $198.2 million Pro Parks Levy funds more than 100 projects throughout the city over eight years.  Projects include improvements to athletic fields, playgrounds, trails and community centers and parks. Funding also increases green spaces, supports Zoo programs and enhances park maintenance.
